President Ilham Aliyev: â€œWe should think about expansion of Azerbaijan-Lithuania economic relationsâ€

Baku â€“ APA. â€œAzerbaijan-Lithuanian relations are excellent. We have very active political dialogueâ€, APA reports quoting â€œAzerTAcâ€ news agency. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made this statement in the press conference after the meeting with Lithuanian President Dalia GrybauskaitÄ—.

President said that Lithuania always supports Azerbaijanâ€™s policy of European integration: â€œTo my opinion, we have good potential for the development of economic relations, especially direct contacts between the business circles. I know that the mutual interest is currently growing. Our business circles estimate the various investment opportunities in Lithuania. I think we should pay attention to the future and consider the expansion of economic relations. Because our economies donâ€™t compete with each other on the contrary they complement each other. Thereby, I am sure that our good political relations will be a hint to the business circles to be more active.â€

To the opinion of President Ilham Aliyev, there are good opportunities of bilateral cooperation in the transport sector: â€œAzerbaijan implements various transportation projects. These projects will create new infrastructures, roads, rail and air ways. In this case, issues related to transportation through the Caspian Sea are considered. It may be a part of the transportation cooperation among the Baltic, Black Sea and Caspian Sea regions. This will strengthen the regional cooperation policy, which is very important for the roles that our countries play in these regionsâ€. The Head of State also touched upon the bilateral relations in the field of energy. â€œOn January of the current year we signed a joint declaration with the European Union on the Southern Gas corridor. It was a significant step forward. It will create a base for broader cooperation in this field. Azerbaijan has huge oil and gas reserves. The transportation infrastructure is available to our country with a large number of different pipelines to different directions, which are able to transport the hydrocarbons. Cooperation between Europe and Azerbaijan in this field is based on mutual benefits. I am sure, in the upcoming years weâ€™ll see the better the results. Of course, the cooperation in the field of energy is an important part of the relations with the European Union. We are grateful to Lithuania for support Azerbaijanâ€™s participation in the â€œEastern Partnershipâ€ programâ€, - Ilham Aliyev said.
