The relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are built on friendship and brotherhood, President Ilham Aliyev said at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, APA reports.
"Our personal friendship with President Shavkat Miromonovich has elevated our relations to an even higher level. The President of Uzbekistan was the first to assist us in the reconstruction of Karabakh. A beautiful and large school named after Mirza Ulugh Beg was built in the city of Fuzuli, and President Shavkat Miromonovich and I inaugurated it together. After that, other brotherly countries also presented us with gifts — Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan. But the first assistance came from Uzbekistan.
Every time I visit Uzbekistan, I become even more convinced of how close and deeply connected our peoples are. When I see the written language, there is no need for translation. Our languages are very similar. Of course, there are some differences in pronunciation, but essentially everything is understandable. We are united by profound historical ties.
Developing relations with Uzbekistan is one of our priorities. I should also note that Uzbekistan did not end its brotherly mission with the school. The first major industrial enterprise in the city of Khankendi — a garment factory — was opened with Uzbek investment, and President Mirziyoyev and I inaugurated that factory together. Many economic and industrial projects are being implemented. We established a joint investment fund. The $500 million investment fund is implementing various projects in both Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. Today, Azerbaijan's state oil company, SOCAR, is investing in a very important exploration field in Uzbekistan, and I hope they will bring us good news in the near future," the head of state said.
According to the President, energy security issues, particularly gas supplies, are now important for many countries.
"I hope the exploration work at the Ustyurt field will produce positive results. As for the Azerbaijan-Central Asia format, President Mirziyoyev has played a special role here as well. Azerbaijan has already joined this Consultative Council as a full member. I had previously been invited twice to its summits as a guest of honor. Most recently, the unified Azerbaijan-Central Asia Consultative Council was established, which fills us with great pride and satisfaction. This is a unique development. Geographically, we are located in the South Caucasus, but our cultural, historical, and ethnic ties are so strong, and our political relations are so multifaceted, that our friends in Central Asia decided to welcome us. This will also have a positive impact on geopolitical and geo-economic relations.
Thus, Central Asia and Azerbaijan are becoming part of a single economic and political space. At the same time, this is of great significance for connectivity and the implementation of transport and logistics projects. Of course, President Mirziyoyev's foresight and strategic vision have played a very important role here. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate our Uzbek brothers on their achievements. I visit Uzbekistan frequently, and I will probably visit again this year. Every time I go there and witness the new developments, I feel very happy. I know that the brotherly people of Uzbekistan are confidently moving forward under the leadership of President Mirziyoyev," President Aliyev added.
