Mayor Adrian Fenty of Washington, DC: â€œAzerbaijan was invaded on the night of January 19-20, 1990â€

According to APAâ€™s Washington DC correspondent, Adrian Fenty, mayor of US Capitol â€“ Washington DC â€“ expressed his opinion in a letter to US-Azerbaijanis Network (USAN).
In his response, Mayor Adrian Fenty of Washington, D.C., extended formal recognition and official commemoration of the Black January 1990 tragedy.
â€œNow, I, the mayor of the District of Columbia, do hereby ask the residents of this great city to remember the victims of Black Januaryâ€, said the Mayor.
According to Fenty, â€œAzerbaijan was invaded on the night of January 19-20, 1990 and hundreds of Azerbaijanis were killed and wounded in a courageous resistance against their attackers; and today Azerbaijanis remember this tragic event as one of a series of events that later led to the independence of Azerbaijanâ€.
US Azerbaijanis always commemorate the Black January events, but it is the first time US capitals officials react on it.
