OSCE representative for Freedom of the Media Miklos Harasti holds press conference on state of media in Europe

British parliamentarian Andrew Macintosh’s report on “Respect for Media Freedom” was heard at the second part of the plenary meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. APA’s correspondent at the Council of Europe reports that OSCE Representative for Freedom of the Media Miklos Harasti also delivered a speech on this issue.

Before the discussions at the plenary meeting, Andrew Macintosh and Miklos Harasti held a press conference on state of media in the Council of Europe member states. Note that Miklos Harasti’s mandate as OSCE Representative for Freedom of the Media will expire this year. Making a speech at the press conference, Harasti stated that the Council of Europe and OSCE are always on guard of freedom of the media. He also expressed concern over state of the freedom of media in Azerbaijan. Harasti also positively assessed the start of the process of adoption of draft law on defamation in Azerbaijan.
