International Crisis Group expert: Coinciding of the presidents’ Chisinau meeting with Turkish-Armenian normalization has great significance

He valued the Nagorno Karabakh conflict as a complicated frozen conflict. “But there has been a progress in the negotiations between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia in recent years. The presidents held five meetings last year. It was the most progressive period in the past 15 years of the conflict. The Chisinau meeting is important also for that Azerbaijan’s ally Turkey and Armenia began to normalize their relations”.

Lawrence Schitz said there was no change in the attitude of Azerbaijani and Armenian societies to each other. “Unfortunately both societies negatively organized themselves against each other. It is a result of propaganda. If even there is any agreement, it will be psychologically difficult for both societies to establish communication”.
