A public hearing on the topic "Digital Development, Artificial Intelligence, and Protecting Children from Harmful Effects on Social Media Platforms" was held at the Temporary Commission of the Milli Majlis against Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats, APA reports.
The speakers highlighted the strategic importance of developing large language models in the Azerbaijani language by the end of 2028, improving governance in the field of artificial intelligence, ensuring efficient data management, and accelerating digital transformation.
It was stated that a strong legal framework, political will, and consistent legislative reforms are essential prerequisites for achieving these goals.
At the same time, it was emphasized that ensuring children's digital safety is a shared responsibility of the state, schools, teachers, parents, and digital platforms. Increasing students' digital literacy, protecting personal data, verifying the accuracy of information, and fostering ethical behavior on social media were identified as key priorities. It was noted that technological development will create a safer, more innovative, and sustainable digital environment for future generations only if it is based on ethical principles and serves human well-being.
It was pointed out that ensuring children's safety in the digital environment is regarded as one of the priority directions of state policy.
It was noted that Azerbaijan has joined international conventions in this field, the national legislation has been improved, and, based on the relevant order of President Ilham Aliyev, legal and technological mechanisms aimed at protecting children in the digital environment are being strengthened. At the same time, it was emphasized that the measures to be taken in this direction have been discussed at the Digital Development Council.
