Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov: â€œIt is illegal to carry out work in the disputable areas of the Caspian Seaâ€

Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. â€œIt is illegal to carry out work in the disputable areas unless the legal norms on the fixation of the jurisdictional zones in the Caspian Sea are determined,â€ President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at the press conference in New York, APA reports. He said that the main contradiction in the Caspian between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan is connected with the oil field in the central part of the shelf where Baku is actively producing hydrocarbon resources.
Berdimuhamedov considers that in stead of arguing on the belonging of separate geographical territories, it is more important to solve the legal problems in general.
â€œIt is impossible to continue political and economic development process of the region, protect biological resources of the Caspian, achieve development of the navigation, determine legal responsibility zones of littoral states without expressing unique position on precise geographical coordinates of the median line of the sea,â€ he said.

President said Turkmenistan decided to solve this problem in court.
â€œWe said beforehand that we will accept any decision of the court. Turkmenistan demonstrates its readiness to eliminate any contradiction with the littoral states, establish conflict-free international political and economic cooperation zone in the Caspian,â€ he said.
