American expert: â€œIf Russia achieves its goal in Georgia, it will target Azerbaijan nextâ€

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. â€œRussia has already divided Georgia and intends to replace the current president of the country. If Russia achieves its goal in Georgia, it will target Azerbaijan nextâ€, said US expert on post-soviet countries, member of the US Foreign Relations Council Jiri Valenta during his visit to Azerbaijan, APA reports. The expert said Russiaâ€™s decision on Abkhazia and South Ossetia would return as boomerang to it. Valenta said Russia was interfering in the internal affairs of its neighbors and therefore the world should take strong measures against Moscow.

Valenta focused attention on increasing of pre-election tensions in Ukraine and said the Sword of Damocles hanged over this country. He didnâ€™t rule out rise of problem in Crimea like the problem existed in Azerbaijan. He considers that Ukraine is a large country and has powerful army, which makes Russiaâ€™s interference unreal.

The American expert mentioned the Nagorno Karabakh problem and said at one time Russian president Boris Yeltsin told him that he intended to stop this conflict, but power organizations prevented him to do that.
