European Union to sign associative agreement with members of Eastern Partnership program

Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. European Union and members of the Eastern Partnership program will sign an associative agreement, John Kea, head of the unit for Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus and South Caucasus at the European Commission External Relations Directorate General, and Giovanni Cremonini, head of the European Neighborhood Policy Unit said in Azerbaijan. According to them, this agreement is more all-round than the agreements on partnership and cooperation and envisage additional spheres such as free trade. John Kea said one of the conditions to sign the free trade agreement is the membership of the World Trade Organization.

John Kea said the European Union will offer technical and financial support for the implementation of the intergovernmental agreement signed in connection with Nabucco project.
“Provision of energy security is an important issue for the EU,” he said.

Answering question about the simplification of visa regime, the diplomat said they are approaching this stage.
“Simplification of the visa regime does not mean its cancel, it is the simplification of ordinary citizens’ traveling to the EU member states. Agreement on readmission should be signed along with this document,” he said.
