AS Roma forward Stephan El Shaarawy has ended speculation over his long-term future by penning a new contract with the Giallorossi, ApaSport reports citing Football Today.

The Serie A giants have confirmed that the Italian winger has committed his future to the club by signing a new two-year deal, keeping him in Rome until 2025.

El Shaarawy was subject to interest from Besiktas in February, with the Super Lig giants initiating talks with the player’s representatives over a mid-season move to the Turkish top flight.

However, the 30-year-old forward turned down the transfer to remain at Stadio Olimpico. His previous deal expired at the end of last season, but Roma have decided to extend their association with the Italian.

El Shaarawy contributed nine goals and four assists in 42 appearances across all competitions last season as Jose Mourinho’s side secured a top-six finish in Serie A and reached the Europa League final.

The Giallorossi have been active in the transfer window this summer. They are in talks to sign Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, with the player’s agent expected in Italy to try and finalise the transfer.
