As part of the World Bank's ongoing technical support to the Government of Azerbaijan, an energy audit was conducted at the production facility of Azeraluminium LLC located in the city of Ganja, the World Bank told APA-Economics.
It was noted that this activity reflects a shared commitment to advancing decarbonization in the industrial sector in Azerbaijan. The main objective of the energy audit is to identify practical opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the country’s leading aluminum production facility.
It was stated that this activity was carried out within the framework of the Azerbaijan Rapid Technical Assistance Facility (AZTAF) program, which is financed by the European Union and implemented by the World Bank. The AZTAF program supports the Government of Azerbaijan in strengthening capacity for improving energy efficiency and implementing and financing energy efficiency measures in the building sector – including industrial and commercial facilities.
The World Bank team began the work with a meeting held in Baku. Representatives from “Azeraluminium” LLC, the Azerbaijan Investment Holding, and the German consulting company “CMMC” participated in the meeting. Afterwards, a joint technical assessment was carried out at the Ganja plant, where operational processes were analyzed, energy efficiency measures were identified, and a basis was created for their cost-benefit analysis.
The final report will serve as a model contributing to the development of future investment and energy policy recommendations aimed at accelerating energy efficiency and the decarbonization process in Azerbaijan’s industrial sector.
