90% of Georgia’s gas imports come from Azerbaijan, APA-Economics reports, citing the World Bank’s report.
The World Bank specifically noted Azerbaijan’s leading role in Georgia’s natural gas supply. According to the document, 90 percent of Georgia’s total gas imports come from Azerbaijan, while 10 percent come from Russia.
The report states that Georgia also acts as a transit country for gas transported from Azerbaijan to Türkiye. In return for this transit, the country receives both transit fees in monetary form and a certain volume of low-priced gas.
“Georgia’s long-term offtake agreements with Azerbaijan also protect the country from the impact of fluctuations in spot market prices,” the World Bank added.
