"Currently, the Azerbaijan State Oil Fund's (SOFAZ) investments in Africa amount to approximately USD 400 million and are mainly directed towards fixed-income instruments and IFC funds," said Bahruz Behramov, the Deputy CEO at SOFAZ, during the panel discussions at the Djibouti Forum 2025, APA-Economics reports.

He noted that the Fund's first investment in capital markets was through the IFC, directed towards Africa and Latin America, and primarily covered the finance and communications sectors. After starting investments in alternative assets—especially in capital and real estate—SOFAZ began exploring other regions such as the Middle East, China, and now Africa.

"Africa is no longer the potential of the future; it is today's opportunity. As long-term investors, we are the most suitable party to provide stable and long-term capital. Therefore, we believe it is time to invest more in this region," Bahruz Behramov added.

Note that the Djibouti Forum 2025 is organized by the Djibouti Sovereign Wealth Fund (Fonds Souverain de Djibouti). The event serves as a global platform to accelerate investments in emerging markets. The forum showcases the potential and prospects of Djibouti and the African continent.
