Acceptance of US dollar banknotes has been suspended through Automated Teller Machines and terminals of several banks acting in Azerbaijan for a while. Its reason is the existence of counterfeit banknotes in circulation, APA-Economics reports.
Unibank and Kapital Bank have confirmed the fact to APA-Economics.
The Central Bank noted that 271 counterfeit banknotes in national and 125 foreign currencies were found and withdrawn from circulation by the CBA in January-September this year: "According to the current legislation, the rules of withdrawal, destruction of counterfeit banknotes, and taking appropriate measures are determined by the Board of the Central Bank. In this regard, counterfeit banknotes are submitted to law enforcement agencies for investigation and returned after the investigation. It is kept in the Central Bank."
