Azerbaijan held presentation of ICMP's Assessment Report on Search for Missing Persons-PHOTO

The presentation of the "Assessment Report on the Search for Missing Persons in the Republic of Azerbaijan" by the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), organized by the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons, was held in Baku, APA reports.

Members of the State Commission and employees of the Working Group, senior representatives of the International Commission, members of parliament, heads of relevant government bodies, media representatives, and NGOs attended the event.

It was particularly emphasized that Armenia is avoiding cooperation with Azerbaijan on clarifying the fate of missing persons and providing information about mass grave sites with various excuses.

During the conflict period, Armenia regularly violated international law provisions regarding the protection of individuals from enforced disappearance, took civilians hostage, subjected them and prisoners of war to inhumane treatment, torture, and imprisonment without trial, executed them, and buried people in mass graves without observing burial customs, furthermore, mass graves were concealed and intentionally destroyed and given this context, it is expected that the number of such grave sites will continue to increase.

Later, a presentation of the report prepared by the International Commission on the assessment mission conducted in Azerbaijan in 2023 was held.

It was noted that the State Commission, which is making every effort to end the thirty-year wait of the families of the missing persons, intends to strengthen its cooperation with the International Commission, which possesses significant experience in identifying illegal grave sites, identifying human remains, clarifying the fate of the missing persons, and judicial expertise, as well as advanced technical capabilities and modern methodologies in the field.

In conclusion, strong confidence was expressed that cooperation with the International Commission will yield effective results in clarifying the fate of Azerbaijan's missing compatriots.
