ADB plans to invest over $10 billion through 2030 across the CAREC region, said the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Masato Kanda, APA-Economics reports.
ADB plans to invest over $10 billion through 2030 to foster regional connectivity, clean energy, digital transformation, and inclusive infrastructure across the CAREC region. This is connectivity with a purpose, one that makes commerce smoother and more inclusive. Since 2001, CAREC partners and ADB have mobilized about $54 billion in investments, of which $19 billion came from ADB financing and cofinancing.
According to Masato Kanda, one example is CAREC Corridor 2. Between 2025 and 2028, ADB will mobilize about $4 billion for 18 projects to improve trade, transport, and logistics across seven CAREC countries. In energy, ADB is mobilizing more than $800 million to advance two of the region’s largest hydropower projects: Rogun in Tajikistan and Kambarata-1 in the Kyrgyz Republic.
We are also assisting Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan in preparing the feasibility study for the Caspian Green Energy Corridor, a project that could be transformational for clean power trade from Central Asia to Europe.
Climate and disaster risks are rising fast. That is why ADB approved a $56 million grant to the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan that combines contingent disaster financing with a disaster relief bond. Importantly, it shifts natural hazard risks to the capital markets and helps governments recover faster when disaster strikes.
Similarly, our Glaciers to Farms regional initiative, supported by the Green Climate Fund, will mobilize $3.5 billion over the next decade to strengthen irrigation, water storage, and watershed management to protect livelihoods and food systems for millions across the region.
