WB appoints new director on South Caucasus region

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-Economics. Newly appointed World Bank Director for the South Caucasus region has been submitted to the Government of Azerbaijan.

Head of the WB’s representative in Azerbaijani Joseph Owen says former director Asad Alam will be replaced Henry Kerali, who served as head of the transportation program for the South Caucasus region.

Owen said Kerali has already been introduced to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. At the same time, the new Regional Director for South Caucasus, held several meetings at a number of state agencies of Azerbaijan, met today with Prime Minister Artur Rasizade.

’Alam will continue his activity in Pretoria as manager of the World Bank in South Africa’, he said.

Addressing the meeting, Alam expressed satisfaction with the work in Azerbaijan and spoke about the country’s close cooperation with the World Bank. He noted that at the end of this year there would be marked the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s membership in the World Bank.

’During my activities in Azerbaijan, the bank implemented a project for the construction of roads, transport infrastructure, irrigation, health, agriculture and other projects that have played a positive role in improving the welfare of the country’, - said Alam.

In turn, Kerali noted that the World Bank and Azerbaijan would further deepen cooperation in various fields.
