Russia to lend Vietnam 8 bln USD for first nuke plant

Baku-APA. Russia would provide Vietnam a loan of 8 billion U.S. dollars to build its first nuclear power plant ( NPP), First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said here Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The construction of the NPP will be completed in 2020, according to Shuvalov, who just met with his Vietnamese counterpart Hoang Trung Hai in Moscow earlier this week.

During their meeting, Moscow and Hanoi also signed an inter- governmental agreement on creation of a center for nuclear studies and technologies in Vietnam, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

Vietnam’s first nuclear plant will have two energy units with a capacity of 1.2 GW each. The country plans to build up to eight NPP in total and carry nuclear energy capacities to 15 GW by 2030.
