Azerbaijan intensifies measures against money forgery

Director General of CBA Agshin Valiyev said that belief to Azeri manat and attractiveness of national banknotes and coins creates a basis for turning it into strong currency at the regional level. There are also potential risks on forgery of Azeri manat. And it in turn, demands to intensify measures against the falsification of banknotes and extension of coordination between the relevant state organs in this sphere. Director General noted that appropriate structure had been established for management of potential risks.

At the same time, Valiyev said that recently, facts of spread of imitation of banknotes of various denominations on some products were revealed and that CBA, as well as other state bodies received a number of appeals in this regard.

In connection with it, representatives of Interior, Taxes and Economic Development Ministries delivered speeches and said such cases cause dissatisfaction among population, some forgery cases, conducted via the imitated banknotes were recorded.

According to information given by representative of the Interior Ministry, as a result of the last talks conducted with the CBA, import of different products with imitated banknotes has been stopped and measures had been started on withdrawal of such products from retail sales enterprises.

At the end of the discussion, a decision was passed on intensification of coordination against forgery of banknotes among relevant state bodies, as well as limitation of imitation of banknotes. Moreover, future cooperation perspectives among the Central Bank and state bodies were discussed too. Appropriate protocol was signed at the end of the meeting. Besides, it is considered to take appropriate measures in direction of enlightment of representatives of several state bodies and commercial organization on enforcement elements of the national monetary unit.
