International Credit Union Day to be marked on October 20

Baku. Vahab Rzayev - APA-Economics. On October 20, 100 countries numbering among its 188 million credit union members will gather to celebrate the International Credit Union Day.

The Azerbaijan Credit Union Association (AKIA), this year, credit unions will join a large sector of cooperatives.

UN wants to start 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives. The slogan of the International Credit Union Day “Credit unions create bright world” will complement the slogan of the International Year of Cooperatives “Cooperatives provide bright world”.

Celebration of International Credit Union Day is important in the history of the credit union movement. This event will help the public get acquainted with the socio-economic role of cooperatives at the international level, at the same time lets you know that credit unions are not made for profit and charity, but for mutual aid to its members.

In Azerbaijan, more than 20 thousand members of 74 credit unions - members of the AKIA will celebrate this holiday too. The authorized capital of credit unions is more than AZN 9 mln.
