As part of a de-escalation plan, Qatar and Pakistan have offered to transfer interest on $6 billion frozen in Doha to Iran in exchange for allowing international inspectors access to nuclear facilities, APA reports citing Al Arabi Al Jadeed.
"The mediators presented a proposal that resonated with the US and Iran. It involves providing [Tehran] with interest on $6 billion in Iranian funds frozen in Qatari banks," sources told the publication, which is linked to Doha.
According to their information, the initiative envisions partial satisfaction of both sides' demands. In exchange for financial concessions, the Islamic Republic agreed to Washington's nuclear deal and accepted a "secret, unannounced visit" by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors to its facilities. As the portal notes, Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on October 20 to convey this compromise plan to the Iranian leadership.
Al Arabi Al Jadeed sources expect that a breakthrough in the negotiations could be announced as early as this week.
