Turkey names new prime minister

This decision was made May 19 during a meeting of the AKP’s Central Decision and Administration Board.

Binali YÄ±ldÄ±rÄ±m was born in Erzincan province, Turkey in 1955. He was educated at the Istanbul Technical University's School of Maritime in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering and in 1991 he graduated from the World Maritime University with a Master of Science degree in Maritime Safety and Environmental Protection. YÄ±ldÄ±rÄ±m served as the director general of the Istanbul Fast Ferries Company (Ä°DO) from 1994 to 2000. He served as the Minister of Transport for the 58th, 59th, and 60th governments. He remained in office in the 61st government. A member of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), he has served as a Member of Parliament for Ä°stanbul's first electoral district. He is married and has three children. He speaks English and French fluently.
