On July 6, the international conference titled "Cultural and Ethnic Diversity: Lessons of History, Modern Challenges" began at the Karabakh Hotel in Shusha, organized by the Center for Cultural and Ethnic Diversity Public Union, in partnership with the Silk Road Cultural and Historical Research Public Union, APA rpeorts.
Representatives from 10 countries, including Azerbaijan, attended the conference, where ethnic and cultural diversity, human rights, colonial policy, and the history of the peoples of the Caucasus were discussed.
Chairman of the Center for Cultural and Ethnic Diversity Seyfaddin Huseynli stated that various peoples in Russia, including Azerbaijanis, are subjected to discrimination based on their ethnic and religious identity, recalling that his brothers and relatives in Yekaterinburg were attacked by Russian law enforcement officers.
Foreign experts who addressed the conference touched upon Russia's colonial policy in the Caucasus, the history of the Circassians, allegations of genocide, deportations, and forced military service. A representative from Israel described Azerbaijan's preservation of its independence and national identity as an example.
Chairwoman of the Silk Road Cultural and Historical Research Public Union Aida Eyvazli Goyturk said that Azerbaijan had faced occupation and deportations throughout its history and described the Karabakh Victory as the restoration of historical justice.
The conference will continue with panel discussions.
