Marines on the Zmiinyi Island of Ukraine in the Black Sea were not killed but captured, APA reports citing the official Facebook page of the Ukrainian Navy.
"We are very happy to learn that our brothers are alive!"
According to the provided information, the Marines twice bravely repulsed Russian attacks and failed to continue defending the island due to a lack of weapons.
The Navy Command also said that considering the possibility of death and injury of marines Ukraine sent Sapphire civilian ship to the island for a humanitarian mission on February 26 but the crew was captured by the Russians.
Two priests were reportedly among the crew of the captured ship.
