Greece and Malta have blocked the adoption of new sanctions by the European Union (EU) that would ban services necessary for the transportation of Russian oil, Bloomberg writes, citing sources, APA reports.
According to sources, representatives of both countries expressed their concerns about the proposed sanctions at a meeting of ambassadors of EU member states. The meeting discussed the next package of sanctions against Russia.
This proposal, which would ban services necessary for the transportation of Russian oil, is considered one of the main elements of the EU's planned 20th package of sanctions against Russia.
Note that the unanimous consent of all member states is required for the adoption of sanctions in the EU. The 20th package of sanctions is planned to be adopted by the end of February.
