CSTO may discuss depriving Armenia of voting rights at November summit

The issue of depriving Armenia of its voting rights in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) may be discussed at the CSTO summit to be held in Moscow on November 11, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said, APA reports.

According to him, it is within the authority of the CSTO Collective Security Council to make a decision on possible restrictive measures against one of the organization’s members. Galuzin said that the organization’s Charter, including Articles 20 and 25, could be applied in this matter.

Galuzin said that Armenia’s refusal to participate in the CSTO’s activities and its failure to sign annual decisions related to the organization’s budget do not exempt the country from its membership obligations.

“Yerevan’s refusal to participate in the organization’s activities and its failure to sign annual decisions related to its budget only mean that it is not exercising a right that belongs to it. However, this does not remove Armenia’s obligation to pay its national membership contribution on time,” the Russian Foreign Ministry official said.

Note that Armenia announced in 2024 that it had frozen its participation in the CSTO. Yerevan says that the organization has failed to fulfill its security obligations toward Armenia.
