"The end of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia shows that the time has come to start negotiations for the liberation of Georgia’s occupied territories as well," Jemal Gamakharia, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Georgia's Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia in exile told APA's Georgia bureau in a statement.

He emphasized that Georgia's ruling Georgian Dream party is pursuing a peace policy, and that this is the right decision.

"It is very difficult to speak about a precise scenario for how to end the occupation. However, as our government has previously stated, we must achieve this solely through peaceful means, and this conflict must be resolved through peace alone. Naturally, a peaceful resolution implies discussions and meetings with the other side. I cannot say that everything is currently ready for negotiations, but the events happening in Abkhazia, and in Georgia as a whole, as well as in the region—for example, the ending of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict—along with international developments show us that such negotiations must begin in the near future. These negotiations should start involving both the Abkhaz side and the state occupying those territories," Gamakharia said.
