The Joint Committee of the Council of Europe, which brings together the leadership of PACE, representatives of member states, and the Secretary-General of the organization, recommends applying to Russia an exceptional procedure leading to the exclusion of this state from the Council of Europe, PACE President Tiny Kox said this at a press conference in Strasbourg, APA reports quoting European Pravda.

T. Kox noted that during the meeting of the Joint Committee there was a consensus on the decision, which should be officially adopted later on Friday.

“I have been in PACE for a long time, and for the first time, I see such unity at all levels. The decision is up to the Committee of Ministers, but in the understanding that (the expected decision) is Article 8 – the suspension of the participation of the Russian Federation in all bodies of the Council of Europe,” Tiny Kox explained.

Formally, this decision should be made by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which will meet in the evening, but Kox stressed several times that only one option is being considered.
