Director of the Centre for Oil Studies Ilham Shaban told APA-Economics that this order is temporary: “No import tax is imposed on high octane gasoline imported to Azerbaijan. The import tax has been cancelled since April 1, 2014. Now, it will also be imposed on RON 95 and RON 92 petrol. If a limitation is imposed on this, it measn Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev will be closed for a month for repair. So, this is not an ordinary repair. This means that domestic demand for RON 92 petrol through local production will not be met. Therefore, reserve petrol is needed for meeting domestic demand before current repair”.
According to him, the Cabinet of Minister took this step to meet the domestic demand and keep the fuel price unchanged.
Shaban said this decision will become invalid on October 15.
