On August 2, the export of Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria via Türkiye will begin, APA reports.
An official event will be held in the Turkish city of Kilis on this occasion.
Energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Syria
The new export route is of great importance in terms of expanding cooperation in the energy sector between Azerbaijan and Syria and intensifying Azerbaijan's activities in the Middle East region. The project is also considered another successful result of Azerbaijan's geographical diversification policy on energy exports.
Recall that in July this year, Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa paid an official visit to Azerbaijan. Before that, a meeting was held with President Ilham Aliyev within the framework of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. During the meetings, the Azerbaijani side stated its readiness to contribute to the development of Syria in the post-conflict period and the reconstruction and reconstruction process.
Azerbaijan's energy exports are expanding geographically
A delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Samir Sharifov, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited Syria on the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev and discussed the possibilities of Azerbaijan's support for the country's economic revival.
The export of Azerbaijani gas to the Syrian market is considered a new direction of cooperation. Currently, Azerbaijan exports gas to 12 countries, mainly European states. The export route to the Middle East is a new stage in the country's energy strategy. At the same time, Syria may act not only as an importer, but also as a transit country in the future.
