Baku - APA. “Everyone should have understood that the National Council will not be working in Azerbaijan. The National Council has not held serious discussions regarding the elections. Only at the end of June, the single candidate was chosen at the request of the US congressmen,” said leader of the Open Society Party Rasul Guliyev on his Facebook page, APA reports.
Rasul Guliyev noted that the National Council did not discuss the program and sought an alternative candidate.
“This process was continued even after the meeting held with the single candidate in Tbilisi. The single candidate, who was tired of these scandals, understood that those who do not want to go to the elections will blame him for failure, and said in the letter and his interviews that anyone can put forward his candidacy,” he said.
Rasul Guliyev also commented on the reports naming Jamil Hasanli as a reserve candidate.
“I think even the “clients” of mental hospitals won’t believe it,” he said.
Open Society Party leader said the politicians at the National Council have chosen Jamil Hasanli as “scapegoat”.
“Ilgar Mammadov’s registration will be likely solved and he will be released by September 15. Ilgar Mammadov is the strangest figure in Azerbaijan’s politics. No one knows him in the country, but he is known well abroad, so, their attention will be focused on him. Compared to Jamil Hasanli, Ilgar Mammadov is considered a real opposition,” he said.
