A group of human rights defenders appeal to Azerbaijani President for pardoning Tofig Yagublu and other inmates - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED

Baku-APA. Complaints and appeals, sent by citizens, were heard at the meeting and decided to put these issues into the agenda of the next meeting of the group, APA reports quoting the official press release of the meeting.

Human rights defenders have also appealed to President Ilham Aliyev for pardoning deputy chairman of the Musavat Party, Karabakh war veteran Tofig Yagublu.

Highly appreciating Baku 2015 European Games to be held in Baku, human rights defenders have asked President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Mehriban Aliyeva to help in pardoning some inmates on the eve of European Games.

Baku. Farid Mirzayev – APA. NGOs, that are members of the Joint Working Group on Human Rights resumed on the initiatives of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland, have today held a meeting.

Member of the Joint Working Group on Human Rights, Arzu Abdullayeva told APA that leaders of 11 NGOs attended the meeting.

“They appealed to President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Mehriban Aliyeva for pardon by the end of May. They appealed for pardoning NIDA members, Ali Insanov, Ilgar Mammadov, Arif Yunus, Leyla Yunus, Rasul Jafarov, Intigam Aliyev, Hilal Mammadov, Khadija Ismayil and others. They also appealed to President Ilham Aliyev for pardoning Tofig Yagublu. We want Tofig Yagublu not to return to the prison after the funeral of his daughter,” she noted.

The activity of the Joint Working Group on Human Rights consisting of representatives of Azerbaijani civil society and authorities was resumed on the initiatives of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland. The working group held its first meeting on October 22, 2014. Head of the Department on Work with Law Enforcement of the Azerbaijan President Administration Fuad Alasgarov and Head of the Azerbaijani Delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov were elected as co-chairs of the group and human rights activists Saadat Bananyarli and Sahib Mammadov as secretariat members. The last meeting of the group was held with the participation of Special Representative of Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland, general director of Ð¡oÐ• for political consultations Alexander Gessel on April 9, 2015.
