CEC chairman Mazahir Panahov said that millions of voters took an active part in the elections on October 9: “This process was highlighted at a high-level thanks to the created opportunities. The voting process was monitored by thousands of international and local observers. No irregularity, which could affect the results, was recorded.”

The issue of approving the final protocol on the results of the elections was considered at the meeting. According to the requirements of Election Code’s articles #108 and 203, CEC’s final protocol was drawn up and signed by 17 members of the commission. CEC member from Umid (Hope) Party Akif Gurbanov did not sign the protocol.

It was decided to submit the protocol to the Constitutional Court for approval.

Following this, Mazahir Panahov said that President Ilham Aliyev won the elections with the majority of votes.

Ali Ahmadov, authorized representative of presidential candidate Ilham Aliyev, expressed his gratitude to the voters and CEC members regarding the elections. He said that the people made a right choice for the next 5 years.

CEC member from Umid (Hope) Party Akif Gurbanov spoke about why he didn’t sign the protocol. He said more democratic elections could have been conducted in the country. Gurbanov noted that he would release a special opinion on the aspects he was dissatisfied with.
