Pope Leo XIV and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation. One of the key topics of discussion was the situation in Oleshky, Kherson region, APA reports citing Vatican News.
"During the conversation, the Holy Father recalled the grave situation in the city of Oleshky, in the Kherson region, and made reference to the request for a humanitarian ceasefire that he had presented to the President of the Russian Federation," the statement from the Holy See reads.
The Pontiff expressed hope that cooperation between Ukraine and Russia would allow for the delivery of food and medicine to Oleshky. This would also facilitate voluntary evacuation.
Separately, the Pope reaffirmed the Vatican's commitment to dialogue and peace to end Russia's war against Ukraine.
