Azerbaijan’s CEC registered Ilham Aliyev as presidential candidate

APA reports that the registration of the candidacy of Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev nominated by New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) was considered at the meting.

CEC chairman Mazahir Panahov said that the documents received by CEC on confirmation of Ilham Aliyev’s candidacy were examined and determined its legal basis.

Following this, CEC registered Ilham Aliyev as presidential candidate through open voting.

Addressing the meeting, head of the working group under CEC Ilham Mammadov said that 45,000 signatures were submitted to CEC for the registration of Ilham Aliyev’s candidacy. 42,000 out of them were checked and this process was stopped later. Signature samples were checked by working group experts. The checking process was stopped due to 41794 valid signatures. According to the Election Code, if valid signatures exceed 40,000, the checking process is stopped. 206 signatures were turned out to be invalid.

Siyavush Novrzov, an authorized representative of Ilham Aliyev for financial affairs in CEC, made a speech at the end of the meeting and expressed his gratitude. He said that the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan can be an example for a number of European countries.

Totally, 18 persons have already been nominated for the presidency, candidacies of 15 out of them were confirmed. They are Ilham Aliyev, Ahmad Oruj, Ilgar Mammadov (Ilgar Altay), Igbal Aghazadeh, Fuad Aliyev, Ali Aliyev, Araz Alizadeh, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Hafiz Hajiyev, Zahid Oruj, Faraj Guliyev, Arastun Orujlu, Elshan Hasanov, Ismayil Yusifov, Q. Isagov and I. Ismayilov.

The presidential elections will be held on October 9.
