Azerbaijan’s CEC refuses to confirm Rustam Ibrahimbeyov’s nomination for presidency

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. The candidacy of Rustam Ibrahimbeyov nominated by the Initiative Group of the National Council for presidency has not been confirmed.

 

APA reports that the decision has been passed at today’s meeting of the Central Election Commission (CEC) in this regard.

 

According to CEC Secretary Arifa Mukhtarova, in his response to CEC’s request, ambassador of Russia to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin said that Ibrahimbeyov is a citizen of Russia since November 28, 1991.

 

Arifa Mukhtarova said that the documents received by CEC on registration of the candidacy of the Rustam Mammadibrahim Ibrahimbeyov were examined and determined that they have no legal basis: “This decision should be based on his citizenship and obligations before Russia.”

 

The meeting also provided information about the queries addressed to the relevant bodies of Azerbaijan and Russia.

 

It was also noted that Rustam Ibrahimbayov lived only 1163 days of his 74 year long life in Azerbaijan.

 

Basing on these facts, CEC decided not to confirm Ibrahimbeyov’s candidacy through open voting.
