"Climate change is the greatest challenge of humanity, transcending national borders and requiring collective efforts," Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, said at a Parliamentary Meeting organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis within the framework of COP29.
The Speaker noted that nearly 90 delegations from national parliaments, inter-parliamentary organizations, and other institutions are participating in this meeting: "This is a sign of our determination and dedication to solving the climate change issue, which is the most pressing problem of our time. All countries in the world are affected by climate change, and our country is no exception. In recent decades, Azerbaijan has faced extreme heat, water shortages, a decrease in the Caspian Sea's water level, and floods. Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, who has recognized the depth of this challenge and demonstrated foresight, Azerbaijan has shown clear confidence and determination by integrating the green agenda into its national development programs, voluntarily undertaking commitments, implementing renewable energy projects, and creating green energy zones before COP29."
