Azerbaijan may apply special military regime in limited areas

Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. If necessary, amendments are expected to be made to the legislation to apply military regime in limited areas and improve information capacity in military situation. The Azerbaijani Parliament told APA that relevant annexes and amendments may be made to the law “On martial rule”.

Commenting on the issue, member of the parliament’s security and defense committee Zahid Oruj told APA that such amendments are possible and real: “At present, the situation over Nagorno Karabakh has become tense. Serz Sargsyan’s election as president of Armenia for next 5 years proves that the conflict will not be solved peacefully. Attempts to open Khojaly airport mean to openly decide on mass armed clashes in order to draw Azerbaijan into provocation. The consequences of the shooting down of an Armenian aircraft and battle for our airspace mean the start of the second Karabakh war. Under these circumstances the country must declare martial rule in the certain local zone. We should enhance Azerbaijan’s relations with the international information systems and making a number of amendments to the law on “Martial rule”, form our grounds on declaring martial rule around Karabakh,” he said.
