Gudret Hasanguliyev: â€œMikhail Saakashvili would never attempt to return South Ossetia without the countenance of the United Statesâ€

-How are your election preparations going on?

-We took signature sheets on Sunday and have started signature collection campaign as from today. Signature sheets have been distributed among the regional department from 500 to 1500. Representatives of the party leadership have been sent to the rural regions. The signature sheets will be presented to the chairmen of regional departments. They should collect signatures and presented to us by August 28. We will attach other documents and submit to the Central Election Commission within a week.

-Gulamhuseyn Alibayli resigned from Azerbaijan Popular Front Party some days ago. How do you assess Alibayliâ€™s step being a man who left this party some years ago?

-I assess it normally. This was an expected step, maybe a little bit late. Everybody knows that they fail to hold the meeting of the Supreme Assembly for three years. The persons, who were once the members of the Supreme Assembly, left the party. They can not even hold a congress. There are some persons with Ali Karimli. Gulamhuseyn Alibayli is a cautious politician. He took this step after he became sure.

-How do you evaluate the ongoing processes in Georgia?

-To me, Mikhail Saaakashvili is not a politician of enduring disposition and intellectual capability. However, I appreciate his steps taken in the direction of returning the South Ossetia. He would never take such step without the countenance of the United States. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice recently visited Georgia. The United States did not probably prognosticate about Russiaâ€™s attacks to Georgia. From my standpoint, the United States tore the mask off Russia using Georgia. After the last steps of Russia, the anti-Russia mood increased in the world. The ongoing processes showed that Georgia was not ready for military operations. If they could withstand an attack of Russian Army for a week, Georgia would restore its full sovereignty over Ossetia. This process will negatively impact to Nagorno Karabagh and Dnestr conflicts from the physiological point of view. Europe and the United States should render assistances to Georgian People in order to help them put up resistance to Russian Army.
