Situation in Central Asia is discussed in PACE Political Committee

The meeting of PACE Political Committee continues, APA reports. The situation in Central Asia, the main problems of the region and their influence to Europe, the creation of the dialogue based on human rights between PACE and Central Asia Counties’ parliaments and some other issues are discussed in the meeting held in Baku. PACE representative from Poland Tadeusz Iwinski said that the dialogue should be conducted with parliamentarians of Central Asia countries.
“It is more important for them,� he said.
The head of Turkey delegation in PACE Murat Merjan stressed that Central Asia countries have great potential.
“Unfortunately, Europe has not used this potential up to now. PACE last discussed Endinjan events,� he said.
Merjan said that only Kazakhstan cooperates with CE.
“Other countries are not interested in the cooperation with CE. Our aim is to determine the ways of the cooperation with Central Asia countries and to strengthen the relations with CE,� he said.
International Crisis Group Central Asia representative Michel Hall called for U.S to support these countries.
“Only Kazakhstan is developing among region countries, increase id observed in its economy. There are problems concerning mass media freedom and human rights, the people consider the democracy dangerous. That is why we should support these countries and encourage them to democracy,� he said. /APA/
