Umid Party Chairman Igbal Aghazadeh: “Musavat leadership talks about unserious issues†– INTERVIEW
- Despite that some opposition leaders propose to establish coalition for the parliamentary elections, Musavat said it could work with only Azerbaijan Popular Front Party. How do you value this position?
- Every political organization is free to choose its partner. Musavat also considers that coalition with APFP will be more successful. I wish them successes. I have to notice that we also don’t intend to work with those who have not intentions to work with us. We put forward only the thesis of mobilization of all forces toward the democratization of the Azerbaijani society. The forces, who see their victory out of this thesis, are free in their choice.
- What do you think, is the Musavat Party right in its approach?
- Every approach has its subjectivity. Musavat is also right from own viewpoint. But we consider that there are large resources today and they must be consolidated. It is possible to do great work with larger unity. The parliamentary elections will make clear the truth, who is wrong and who is right.
-Musavat leader Isa Gambar accused some opposition parties in cooperation with other countries and their secret services. How do you value these accusations?
- I wouldn’t like to approach such issue theoretically. If they have some reports, let them to publicize it contributing to the Azerbaijani society, to give names to the society’s discussion. Everyone can put accusations forward. There is no party in Azerbaijan that was not declared hero or traitor in 2005, 2003 or 2000. Every party declared another one hero or traitor in the different periods of the history. I think these are also such kinds of accusations.
- How do you approach this issue?
- I think this issue should be approached not like in the Soviet time. Somebody is working for Russia, someone for ETELAAT, or someone for the government… It needs to be some pragmatic. Let’s think logically. If Russia can create spy network among the political forces, America, Britain is doing it before them. I see only different side of such approach. It was so in 1988 too. If someone didn’t like other inside the national movement, he declared that man Russian or Iranian spy. It is not correct to return to that period and to have same attitude to the people. There can not be political forces defending Russian interests. There are only forces which see Azerbaijan’s interests in its close relations with Iran or Russia. For example I see Azerbaijan’s interests in close relations with the European Union, Israel and Turkey. It doesn’t mean that I work for those countries. How it can be that those, who support close relations with Russia, are considered as agents, but others, who connect the development of Azerbaijan with Europe, are seen as civil, democratic and liberal people? It is not correct. Everyone sees Azerbaijan’s interests differently. I am against the labels such as “working for spy networkâ€.
-Do you think there is a political force cooperating with the Federal Security Service or ETTELAAT?
-I do not believe it, I am unaware of the existence of such political force. What will the cooperation with the political parties give to ETTELAAT or Federal Security Service? It is possible to listen to anyone’s talks. The position of all political forces is clear in Azerbaijan. Is there any confidential information to transfer to an intelligence agency? Such reports are incorrect. Earlier, the individuals had an access to information. Now it is possible to have an access to the information with technology. How can we speak about intelligence network, if our correspondence can be observed by any intelligence agency? The police in modern countries also prefer technologies to the intelligence system.
-Would you make public if you had such reports?
-I would inform the authorized bodies of Azerbaijan. If it was not dangerous for the public, I would announce it. Those who sell the interests of Azerbaijan must answer before the law.
-Why doesn’t Musavat announce, if it has such reports?
-Musavat leadership should clarify it. I think their words are not serious. There are a lot of such parties in Azerbaijan. These are unserious issues. Persons express their position openly, for example, see the solution of Azerbaijani problems in the approximation with Russia. Will a spy decode himself? I say I see Azerbaijan’s development in the integration into NATO, Europe and America. Do I decode myself? This is nonsense. The U.S. intelligence system consists of its citizens placed in the special government agencies or persons used in other way. In other situation no one uses the tactics to keep spies.
-Are the parties discussing participation in the parliamentary elections?
- We have started preparations for the elections. We have been holding discussions with a number of parties for a month and a half. I can not say anything about the results yet. The process continues. The results will be possibly known by next month. I do not want to name these parties now.
