Leader of Open Society Party: The aim of the unification of Musavat and Azerbaijan Popular Front Party is not clear again – INTERVIEW
- The Open Society Party will become active enough in 2010. It will try to take its appropriate place in the society with high intellectual level not with slogans. We will try to explain to everybody that the nation has got neither present, nor future unless the country’s political structure is founded basing on democracy. Everyone has the right to live as he wishes within the framework of the law and this should be ensured.
- How do you assess the activity of the Open Society Party following the changes in its leadership? Do you plan staff changes in the party again?
- There is nothing to assess yet. As regards the staff changes, it is in the competence of the party’s Supreme Assembly.
- Parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan this year. Will you participate in these elections?
- It hard to say something beforehand.
- How will the Open Society Party participate in the elections? Will it join blocs inside the opposition?
- It is early to answer this question.
- Musavat and Azerbaijan Popular Front Party plan to participate in the parliamentary elections inside the unique bloc. Moreover, the unification of these parties is being discussed. What do you expect from this unity?
- Unification for democracy is praiseworthy. But the aim of this unification is not clear again. If the aim is to take 5-6 seats in the parliament again, it does not matter whether you are together, or not. Maybe this time Musavat will take three seats and Popular Front Party two. It does not concern Azerbaijan, or people. It is an internal problem. In other words, if a sportsman failing in a competition has intention to win in future, he works harder. If a sportsman blames the referee for his failure, then his failure will be worse. The situation is the same in politics. The opposition has not thought over any variants concerning the local elections. I regret that my words will hurt some people, but this is truth.
- Do you have any relations with the present US government?
- I have acquaintances both in the White House and the Congress.
- When do you plan to return to Azerbaijan?
- It is still hard to answer this question.
