Musavat Party: Further cooperation with Umid Party is impossible
“Umid Party agreed to be represented in the election commissions, partially filled the places allotted for Musavat and other opposition parties and damaged the political struggle carried out for democratic statehood.â€
Musavat says facts were revealed that the lists of the commission members appointed by Umid Party were sometimes determined by the local executive bodies and YAP regional organizations, Umid Party partially admitted these facts. The statement also says that Umid Party is cooperating with the authorities.
“Musavat Party considers that more attention should be paid to the formation of election commissions on parity basis and clarification should be made on the reports about Umid Party’s cooperation with the authorities and offers Umid Party to refuse participation in the election commissions. It was also a test to determine how much Umid Party is committed to the democratic values and takes into consideration the interests of the democratic forces. But an adequate answer was not given to the goodwill proposal of Musavat.â€
Taking into account these factors, Musavat Party states that it is impossible to continue the cooperation with this party. Musavat notes that it is ready to continue cooperation with other parties of the Movement for Karabakh and Republic (Azerbaijan Popular front Party, Azerbaijan Liberal Party, Azerbaijan Democratic Party), hold discussions on establishing political or election blocs.
Umid Party chairman Igbal Aghazadeh told APA that this statement keeps uncertain information. He said if there were facts proving Umid’s cooperation with the government, it should be made public. “Musavat Party is dividing the opposition by the government’s order. It has carried out it for long years. Musavat destroyed Demcongress as well. It was on the threshold of power in 2003, but stepped back and was not able to lead the process till the end. It breached an agreement with Azadlig bloc and joined the parliament in 2005. Now it continues dividing the oppositionâ€.
Aghazadeh said most of Umid’s representatives in the election commissions have not signed protocols in the presidential elections and referendum. “We have been working with Musavat since January 9, 2009. If Musavat sees itself as a supplement to YAP, it is their problem, but not mineâ€, said Aghazadeh. He said that Musavat has insincere relations with other parties too. “Musavat refused to work with Azadlig bloc three years ago. It refuses Umid Party today and will refuse other parties on the eve of parliamentary elections as well. Musavat tries to realize its faction interests only. We don’t refuse their proposals as they claimed. We are ready to recall our representatives from all election commissions today. We refused to participate at the parliament. We proposed it. It is not correct to say that “Umid refused itâ€. If you can please leave your mandate and let us to develop radical struggleâ€.
Aghazadeh said Musavat’ statement couldn’t divide the Movement for Karabakh and the Republic. He said they would continue discussions with other parties of the Movement.
