Draft law on “Azerbaijan’s participation in peacemaking operations” to be discussed in parliament

Baku. Elbrus Seyfulayev – APA. The draft law on “Azerbaijan’s participation in peacemaking operations” will be discussed in the parliament, member of the parliament’s standing committee on security and defense issues Zahid Orujov told APA. He said the draft law will be discussed at the meeting of the committee on October 16. Zahid Oruj said the document determines in which operations Azerbaijani peacekeepers may participate.
“According to the draft law, Azerbaijani peacekeepers may participate in peacemaking, maintenance of peace. Azerbaijani peacekeepers are banned from participating in any bilateral conflicts. Moreover, the document contains a provision on establishment of peacekeeping battalion,” he said.

Zahid Oruj said the appropriate ministries gave positive opinion of the document. He said the status of the peacekeepers will be determined after this law is adopted.
