President Ilham Aliyev acquaints himself with overhaul in Philharmonic Park

Baku â€“ APA. Azerbaijanâ€™s President Ilham Aliyev acquainted himself with the overhaul in the Philharmonic Park, Presidentâ€™s press service told APA. The head of state was informed about the interesting history of Philharmonic Park that was founded in 1830 and for a long time was the only place for rest in Baku. Early in the 19th century, commandant of Baku told the owners of all ships coming from Iran to bring a sack of black soil. The area was covered with that soil, plants were grown there and the park became a â€œgreen islandâ€ of the city. The area of the park was extended in the 60-70s of the 19th century. At the beginning of the past century under the decision of the City Duma, the present Philharmonic Park (then Gubernatorâ€™s Park) was founded in that area. The park was first named Gubernator, then Mikhaylov. More attention was paid and funds allocated on that park then.

The first reconstruction was done in the park in the 70s. for a long time the park was uncared. In May, 2007, the head of state come to the park and gave instructions to overhaul it. President Ilham Aliyev often acquainted himself with the overhaul and underlined the importance of preserving the original style of the park.
Original fountain exclusively designed by French â€œInter Artâ€ Company has been constructed here for the first time in Baku. New tree species have been planted in the garden and classic music will sound here as well.

The head of state and his spouse were also informed about archeological excavations here along with the major repair and rehabilitation operations. Second castle wall and gate of Icherisheher (Old City) have been found out in the territory. After the acquaintance with the garden, President Ilham Aliyev met with representatives of the French â€œInter Artâ€ Company involved in the reconstruction works.
