Azerbaijan National Independence Party clarifies delay of congress

Baku. Elnur Mammadli â€“ APA. â€œDelay of the congress of Azerbaijan National Independence Party is not connected with any separation and or existence of factions. There is no separation in ANIP,â€ secretary general, acting chairman of ANIP Fuad Mukhtarov told APA. He said that the political situation in the country does not make it necessary to hold the congress urgently.
â€œBesides, there are technical problems. There is no problem inside the party to prevent us from holding the congress,â€ he said.

Mukhtarov said the congress will be held in October before the local elections in Azerbaijan. The acting chairman underlined that he did not agree to the views that congress lost its importance in ANIP.

Chairman of Goranboy region organization Fagani Maharramov told APA that the party leadership delays the congress. He said the party leadership delayed the congress under various pretexts.

Chairman of ANIP Ayaz Rustamov resigned from his post late in 2007. Since then, the party has no chairman.
