"In order to tackle global climate change, the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change will launch an initiative called "Climate Action" this year,” UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell said during his speech at the opening ceremony of COP29, APA reports.
He said that achieving a result in Baku would be a logical continuation of the steps taken in this area in recent years:
"This conference is the only unified platform to stop the climate crisis. Negotiations in this direction are held every year. I believe that we should not remain silent about the disasters that people are facing due to climate change. If this happens, the tendencies of instability at the global level will intensify. We must define new financial mechanisms precisely in Baku. If countries do not ensure stability in this area, the world's economic system will completely collapse. We must work diligently towards the formation of a global financing system and reach an agreement on Article 6. This is the only way to achieve the goals set in Dubai. In 2024, the amount of funds allocated to green energy infrastructure will increase by almost $2 trillion compared to the previous year. This year, the UNFCCC is considering launching a results-oriented plan called "Climate Action" to support the climate plans submitted by countries. A number of historic people have stepped forward in recent years. Therefore, we cannot leave Baku without results. Now is an important opportunity to show that global partnership is once again gaining momentum.”
