Azerbaijani FM Jeyhun Bayramov meets with ICESCO Director-General

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.

During the meeting, the current state and development prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and ICESCO, as well as opportunities to expand joint activities in the fields of education, science, culture, and cultural heritage protection, were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to cooperation with ICESCO and actively contributes to international efforts aimed at promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue, multiculturalism, and the values of tolerance.

The importance of locating ICESCO's regional office in Baku for expanding Azerbaijan's cooperation within the organization was highlighted.

The meeting also noted the importance of the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, held in Baku, in drawing the international community's attention to global challenges and expanding opportunities for dialogue and cooperation.

The other side was informed about the work carried out to protect Azerbaijan's rich cultural and religious heritage and restore cultural and religious monuments in the liberated territories. The historical significance of ICESCO's mission to the liberated territories, as well as the designation of the city of Shusha as the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World for 2024, was recalled.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side about preparations for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit, which Azerbaijan will host in 2027, and the events to be held within its framework, as well as the priorities of Azerbaijan's OIC chairmanship.

ICESCO Director-General Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik expressed the organization's interest in further developing cooperation with Azerbaijan and noted the country's contributions to promoting intercultural dialogue.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
