Mine clearance operations continue in Karabakh, with more than 37,000 mines and unexploded ordnance discovered in Aghdam, Emin Huseynov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Aghdam, Fuzuli and Khojavand districts, said during his speech at the plenary session titled "Culture at the Center: Safe Pathways to a Common Future" at the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue held in Baku, APA reports.
He stated that one of the main stages of the restoration and reconstruction process in the liberated territories is clearing the areas of mines.
According to him, over the past five years, approximately 60% of Aghdam's territory, 78% of Fuzuli's territory and 16% of Khojavand's territory have been cleared of mines.
The Special Representative stated that during this period, 37,385 mines and unexploded ordnance were discovered in Aghdam, 51,640 in Fuzuli and 26,281 in Khojavand.
He emphasized that the threat of mines is one of the main challenges facing the restoration and reconstruction process in the liberated territories.
Huseynov stated that a multi-level management and coordination mechanism has been established for the restoration of the liberated territories. Within this mechanism, restoration policies and priorities are determined at the highest level, while working groups consisting of experts determine how the planned activities will be implemented.
The Special Representative noted that the next important stage in the restoration process is the preparation of master plans and urban planning activities.
He stated that Aghdam's master plan was developed within the framework of international cooperation with the participation of renowned specialists from various countries.
According to Huseynov, Aghdam's new master plan separates the city's historical center from its administrative center. The purpose of this approach is to preserve the city's historical and cultural identity by bringing together its past, present and future.
