Finland and Norway do not intend to assume a mediating role in resolving the Ukraine conflict but support the initiative to hold a trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi, Iltalehti reports.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide made the statement at a press conference in Helsinki.
"We do not want to be mediators, but we believe we can make a certain contribution to the process," Eide said.
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen stated that her country supports the US-led peace process.
She emphasized that Finland has no intention of normalizing relations with Russia.
"Finland is not seeking a mediating role. We are here to support Ukraine," Valtonen said.
It should be noted that the statements were made during a joint press conference in Helsinki attended by the foreign ministers of Norway, Finland and Ukraine — Espen Barth Eide, Elina Valtonen and Andrii Sybiha.
